A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:
be a Canadian citizen
be 18 years of age or older
be a resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before nomination papers are filed
not be disqualified by the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election in British Columbia or from being nominated for, being elected to, or holding office, or be otherwise disqualified by law
Nomination packages will be available beginning Friday, August 29, 2014, at Town Hall during regular business hours (8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, except Statutory Holidays) or by emailing the Chief Election Officer at email@example.com.
The Town of GIbsons and School District No. 46 require two nominators for each candidate. Your nominator must be an eligible elector for the Town of Gibsons. View the criteria for an eligible elector here.
Nomination Papers can be filed with the Chief Election Officer during the Nomination Period starting Tuesday, September 30 at 9:00 a.m. and ending Friday, October 10 at 4:00 p.m. We recommend you call 604-886-2274 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
in advance to make an appointment. Nomination Papers cannot be received after 4:00 p.m. on October 10, 2014.

Election Signs and Advertising Information
As you get started on your campaign don't forget to visit the Corporate Officer at Town Hall and pay your $100 deposit for placing campaign signs in the Town. Election signs must be removed by the end of the day on Saturday, November 22, 2014 - your deposit will be returned following the removal.
Election advertising signs may not
be placed on public property, except in the road right-of-way if it does not pose a safety hazard. You may place advertising signs on private property with the permission of the owner.
You are responsible for obtaining the permission of the property owner before placing signs. The Town of Gibsons does not permit candidate signs on municipal buildings, structures, or in locations which may cause a hazard but does permit signs in road right of way, provided it does not limit visibility or create a hazard.
Regarding signage along Highway 101, the Ministry of Transportation has suggested the following guidelines for sign placement:
try not to place signs on curves, if they are placed on curves sight distance restriction must be taken into account;
place signs on tangent (straight) sections away from other highway signage, and at least 150 to 200 metres from intersections;
place signs at least 4 metres or more away from the shoulder edge of the highway.

It is an election offence to conduct election advertising by publishing it in a newspaper or magazine or on radio or television on General Voting Day, November 15, 2014. It is also an election offence to canvass or solicit votes, display campaign material or post signs within 100 meters of where voting is taking place at ALL voting opportunities. Be aware that Voting will be held at the Gibsons & Area Community Center at 700 Park Road, Gibsons, BC:
Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
Wednesday, November 12, 2014 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm
Special Voting Opportunities will be available at Christenson Village and St. Mary’s Hospital on November 15, 2014. Please ensure there are no signs within 100 meters of these facilities on voting days. It is important that you and your agents do not display bumper stickers, buttons, brochures, or any types of unique election campaign signage within this area.RESOURCES
