Seawalk Repair…………………………………………….………….June 22, 2010
Emergency repair work will begin soon (this job is weather dependent) on a section of the seawalk just East of Winegarden Park.Over the course of the next 2 weeks emergency repair work will begin on a section of the seawalk just East of Winegarden Park.
The work is to protect a sewer main that we have buried in that area and re-armour the beach head and walkway area to prevent any further erosion.
We have contacted the affected property owners and will be working with them to gain full access to make this project as smooth as possible. We will also be utilizing the services of Paul Van Poppelen to ensure we are being environmentally considerate of the surroundings.
To date we have sectioned off a portion of this area of the walkway as part of the wall and walk area have become undermined. I expect that there will be a full interruption of the walkway for a few days while this work is in progress.

Geo-exchange District Energy
The Town of Gibsons is seeking ways to diversify and expand its revenue sources at the same time as improving its environmental leadership. A District Energy utility utilizing a green energy source is a viable option that needs to be fully evaluated.
The Town of Gibsons has done some initial investigations on a district energy system with EBA Engineering in early 2008 to determine if a potential business plan could be supported to develop a district energy system in upper Gibsons. The results of that undertaking were favourable and as such additional funding was sought to further that opportunity.
In July 2008 the Town of Gibsons submitted a grant application to CAEE ($20,000) to undertake a business planning process to develop a district energy system in Upper Gibsons. At approximately the same time staff also submitted an application to the Province for a planning grant ($10,000). At UBCM we were advised that both grants were successful.
