The first phase of a ground system of harnessing heat from the earth has been constructed in the Parkland development in Upper Gibsons. This phase will provide heating energy to 27 residential lots. Future phases are proposed to be constructed as development progresses in the Upper Gibsons area. Ground Heat Exchanger (GHX) fields can be built as the development grows and can be extended to service existing development.
Grants were used to fund the feasibility study, business plan, design and construction of Phase 1 while the developer funded the actual distribution system. The GHX fields were funded through grants and taxation.Resources:Geo-Exchange District Energy Utility BrochureProcedures for BuildersPrivate System Installation Guidelines
