The Bylaw Services Department is staffed by two officers sharing one full-time position under the supervision and management of the Director of Planning.  Although the officers work mainly on weekdays from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, they are committed to being flexible enough to work evenings, weekends, and holidays during special events or to address an issue occurring at those extraordinary times.  

Business Licence
Applications for a Business Licence are processed by the Bylaw Officers and inspections for permits and licences are made in accordance with the Business Licence Bylaw No. 666.  All businesses in the Town of Gibsons or doing business with or in the Town must apply for and hold an annual licence to do business in or with the Town.

Bylaw Enforcement
The office administers, monitors, and seeks compliance with the bylaws enacted by the Mayor & Council to regulate the conduct of affairs in the Town of Gibsons.   
The most common activities of the Bylaw Enforcement Officers may be found:

In the control and regulation of dogs and their activity in the Town, including, but not limited to,
o    Licensing and Registration (to the limit of two dogs per parcel of land),
o    Leashing – in on and off-leash areas,
o    Public defecation,
o    Injuries suffered by people and/or animals, and
o    Barking

Noise Limitation and Control
No person shall, except as provided in the Anti Noise Bylaw, make noise which disturbs or tends to disturb, the quiet, peace, rest, enjoyment, comfort or convenience of the neighbourhood.

Property Maintenance
Required standards for the maintenance of private property and to prohibit littering.

Parking Control
Parking Control on public streets and parking lots.

Licence Inspections
All businesses in the Town of Gibsons or doing business with or in the Town must apply for and hold a valid business licence.

Garbage and Household Waste
When, where, and how waste is kept and produced at the curbside.

Maintenance, monitoring, and regulation of areas of public concern, including;

o    The Recreational Water Lease Area
o    Public Parks, and
o    Other Public Places

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
Bylaw Officers cooperate with the local detachment of the RCMP, especially in the area of traffic and vehicular control, usually within the bounds of the Highway Traffic Bylaw No. 702.   

The officers also sit on the Gibsons Community/Police Consultative Committee which convenes once every two months; to discuss issues of common interest with the commanders and supervisors of the local detachment of the RCMP.

Peace Officers
The officers, being “Peace Officers”, are pledged to practice their position fairly and without fear or favour in accordance with the principles and ethics of a Peace Officer.
